MediaTek and Sporton Secure the World’s First FCC Wi-Fi 8 Certification, Marking a New Era for Wireless Connectivity

Taiwan-based testing and certification service provider Sporton announced on January 9 that it has partnered with MediaTek to obtain the world’s first Wi-Fi 8 certification issued by the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC). This milestone signals that Wi-Fi 8 technology has officially transitioned from concept development to real-world deployment.

The certified product is built on MediaTek’s newly unveiled Filogic 8000 chipset platform. According to Sporton, Wi-Fi 8 introduces multiple key technological advancements that significantly enhance spectrum efficiency and overall connection quality, particularly in high-density and multi-device environments.

Compared with 5G networks, Wi-Fi 8 offers industrial-grade stability at a considerably lower cost, making it well suited for enterprise applications such as smart offices, industrial automation, and physical AI indoor deployments. Industry observers believe this FCC certification will accelerate the commercialization of Wi-Fi 8 and play a crucial role in shaping next-generation wireless infrastructure.
