Samsung Electronics Expands Outsourcing of Commodity Memory Module Manufacturing

The report noted that Samsung Electronics is still facing a severe shortage of semiconductor cleanroom space and manufacturing equipment.

Continuing to use its existing packaging facilities in Onyang and Cheonan, South Korea, to produce commodity items like DDR5 memory modules and solid-state drives (SSDs) can even be described as a 'waste' of resources.

Against this backdrop, Samsung Electronics aims to assign a larger share of commodity memory module manufacturing orders to its outsourcing partners, freeing up internal resources to expand the production of advanced, high-end products.

Partners including Dreamtech, HANYANG DGT, and SFA Semiconductor are currently expanding their production capacity in India, Vietnam, and the Philippines, respectively.
